Solo Exhibition at the Michael Phipps Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska.
The paintings that I create are a reflection of my continuous search for “home” as an adult. Many say that home is the place where one lives permanently. Since the age of 18, I have moved many times to attend colleges, change jobs, and be closer to friends and family. The places I have lived are a mixture of dormitories, apartment complexes, townhomes, and multi-family houses. They were all rentals. They were all temporary. They never felt like home.
It is human nature to want to have a place to belong to; a place of comfort and safety. The meaning of home is a way of organizing and understanding the space within ourselves and the way the world is constructed around us. We create meaningful, authentic connections to the places we live. Home becomes home and everything else is not home. This creates a sense of place and a sense of self in place.
